Portugal's bicycle industry reported a 49% increase in sales in the first two months of 2022, according to a report by BIMOTA, the industry body, which detailed data on manufacturing and export output in 2022.
Portugal, one of the manufacturing hotspots for the European bicycle business, achieved export sales of 110 million euros during the period, continuing the trend of record annual totals for manufacturing centers in 2021, creating a value of about 594 million euros. January and February last year were worth 73.78 million euros to producers in the region.
Gil Nadais, BIMOTA Secretary-General, commented, "Frankly, these are positive numbers and we are very optimistic. We forecast that our growth will likely slow this year, and in 2021 we will grow by approximately 39%. However, the data for the first two months of 2022 seem to reinforce growth, and if this trend continues, we will continue to grow and, most importantly, grow again in percentage compared to last year.
